Damon Wirtanen is a dedicated golfer with a commendable 2.5 USGA handicap. He recently qualified for his second consecutive Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship at Beverly Golf & Tennis. Damon attributes his love for the game to his father, Doug, with whom he played regularly for over a decade. A proud member of Salem Country Club in Peabody for the past eight years, Damon continues to hone his skills and compete at high levels. His recent qualification saw him outperform several fellow members, demonstrating his consistent excellence and competitive spirit.
Baseball
Damon Wirtanen has had an impressive baseball career marked by outstanding pitching performances and crucial contributions to his team's success. Known for his dominant presence on the mound, Damon 's no-hitter stands out as a top career highlight. His ability to deliver under pressure was evident when he pitched back-to-back complete games, striking out 21 batters over 14 innings without issuing a single walk.
This remarkable feat helped his team, the Cardinals, upset the heavily favored Red Sox and advance to the City Championship. Offensively, Damon demonstrated his versatility by contributing significantly with his bat, including a standout game where he recorded three hits and scored four runs.
